Montana - truly the last best place - is beautiful any time of year, but Fall is stunning. Aspens turn gold, trees bare their branches for better mountain views, and a subtle palette of wheatgrass yellow and blue green juniper have added contrast with Fall's longer shadows. The visuals are unmatched.

How long have you waited to see Montana, ride a good horse or learn how to paint? Now's the time and this is the place.

2008 will be the sixth season Master Teacher Cassandra James, will offer non-toxic beginning-to-advanced painting technique instruction with informed and stimulating discussion of characteristics of strong painting.

On cool mornings painters ride out on carefully-matched horses to preselected painting sites and work all day until its time to ride back to the ranch for a hot soak, a roaring fire and Happy Hour critique. Two rides a day burn lots of calories which is good, as Mountain Sky is famous for its fine wine and cuisine.

At Mountain Sky, one can observe a healthy respect for the rustic mountain aesthetic. Refurbished rustic cabins with warm cozy fireplaces date back to 1929, when this authentic working ranch first opened its doors to guests. The site is surrounded by enormous pines and aspen groves, and the staff will take care of the smallest details so your time is focused entirely on art making.

Daily progress is made when painters work for many hours on consecutive days. And time away from daily routines, in the mountains on horseback, is so stimulating that your work is informed by the experience and you return home renewed and refreshed with arms full of a body of strong work.
